I suppose I was to ambitious in trying to sell this bike for half of what I was offered in the past from a collector. He distorted my expectations and I lost a lot of time. I am moving in 3 weeks so I need to hustle. Check the Kelley Blue Book to see how desperate I am for quick money. I don't feel great about purging this motorcycle for such a low cost, but I hope you enjoy it.
I am selling my 2009 Harley-Davidson Crossbones It is a collector’s piece and was being saved as investment because this the first radical custom sanctioned by the Factory, and may be one of the last. I figured this was worth a lot when I have received offers for over $30k-45k for it by "collectors" a few years back, before I even owned it. I’m not a collector or in collector circles but it seems if you have connections to China this seems to be where the interest is coming from. I'm selling it for this price because I am gearing up to buy a home. You be the judge on what it is worth, of course.
The Story:
This Crossbones is the first of 4 models that were “personalized” and sponsored by the MoCo. An ‘09 Fat Bob, ‘09 Nightster and ‘10 Iron followed this pioneering flagship motorcycle. This Crossbones was initially approved to be the most radical of the set. I personally was in the meeting with Willie G. requesting his nod of approval and respectful permission to apply modifications his design back in '08. In the end, the modifications to this bike were funded by Harley-Davidson as part of early marketing efforts aimed at connecting with the next generation. This is after the shaky Dark Custom launch that hinted that Harley-Davidson was a little disassociated with the DIY, grassroots and younger riding community. This Crossbones was a part of the second effort to remedy that. We are pleased to note that Harley is doing better today. Anyway, the bike toured the country in the summer of 2009 on a tractor trailer called The Golden Horse Saloon. It went to music and art events that involved younger, edgier audiences. The mission was to expose the brand with relevance to younger, more rebellious consumers. This bike, the most wildly customized of the bunch, was the favorite on the tour.
If you want to see a video on this motorcycle, visit YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIuvzcJY2v8. That's the epic story of me and this bike.
This motorcycle was customized by me in Michigan (where I lived at the time) in an effort to help Harley-Davidson tell the story of what their bikes really are to the next generation; blank canvases. This brand new, fresh-off-the-production-line bike was purchased by the marketing company behind the effort, and went straight to customization. Then it went on tour for the summer of '09 to art shows and heavy metal festivals with the Harley rig and never got ridden. During that time I moved to California. When it returned, I got to keep the bike. I rode the bike less than 10k as a commuter between Long Beach and Irvine to save on gas. When the Michigan tags expired while the bike was in California it now sits for a couple of years, getting started up only once in a while for good keeping.
It still sits. The California DMV won't let me title or register the "49 state bike" because the VIN#’s are out of state. That's the catch with this bike: you have to know how to get around this EPA stuff in California, then you're good to go; Or know how to sell it in another state. If you're in any other state, you are great. So for now, the motorcycle is titled under my father (a Michigan resident) just so I could get it in my hands and out of Harley’s with less hoops to jump. The bike is here in Orange County. I have the Michigan title in hand.
The bike rides great. It turns heads. You feel good on it. Any other Crossbones owner won't compare next to you. Heck, any other late-model stock bike owner won't either. I'll miss that. It's one-of-a-kind for a modified stock bike. It is in good condition. One productive weekend will bring it into great condition. I'd like to note that all the modifications are creatively engineered to be bolt-on, yes bolt-on, so it can go back to stock if you have the parts to do so.

No major chops so the bike can go back to stock if you have the parts (that was a requirement to the project)
What Would I Do To The Bike To Make Polish It Off?
Remove the stickers
Drag bars to give hand clearance when steering
Touch up some small paint ticks
Replace some fasteners showing signs of rust
Wash and wax it
Sandblast the exhaust pipes and paint black
Tune rear suspension
Fabricate rear controls (hell yeah!)
Find nicer wire cover for dash/fuel pump wire atop front of tank
Cap off handlebar ends with something fancy
Clean up access glue around fuel cap
Find cooler ornament atop dash cover above tank
I'd say this just enough work to feel ownership of the bike when done :-)
Thanks and good luck bike hunting! Feel free to contact me with any questions. Or please give me advice on what else I should post the would make people more clear, or interested, with this bike.
Sincerely,
Scout
