History
This motorcycle started life as a yellow 2000 883 Harley Sportster hugger. The guy who sold it to me worked at a Harley shop, and he did put the Nighttrain front end and wheels on it, as well as the black paint, and the engine parts. I bought this blast of a bike from him in 2006 for something to keep as my own in between choppers I was building at the time, and it’s been my hellraising, barhopping, workhorse, cruiser, you-name-it bike ever since. As much as I’d love to keep it, garage space is limited, so I have to let it go to make room for the new chopper I just finished.
This is the Sportster written about in the book, “Bouncing off Guardrails,” and the bike in the picture on the cover of the book. To those who’ve read the book, you know how much I love this bike. I’m happy to sign it somewhere like under the seat or somewhere if you want in case I don’t survive the next surgery and it becomes valuable.
Features
1200 cc V twin sportster engine, Buell Lightning heads/cylinders/pistons, high performance cams, drag bars, Nighttrain front end and wheels, Harley skull accessories (riser cover, pegs, tank cap) when I got it. He claimed it dyno’d at 92 hp. Since then, I’ve installed progressive rear shocks, chain/sprocket conversion, twintec ignition, King tank, sheeted the front fender sides, custom cuts on front and rear fender, side mount taillight/plate mount, HiTech LED taillight, blacked out engine covers, balanced exhaust pipes, gothic cuts and dark pipe wrap, black Y Chrome ignition cover and chrome Y Chrome air cleaner with K&N filter, red painted anarchy symbols, candy red paint over red she-devils on fenders and tank, ‘real’ orange sunset pearl flames w/ yellow highlights on front fender and tank, leather wrapped/stitched seat w/ anarchy burn design.
Maintenance
Twintec ignition, plugs and wires, oil changes, brake pads, hoses, etc. rebuilt engine (new set of Lightning cylinders/pistons in ’09, leads for battery tender installed and included (battery tender device itself NOT included with sale of this motorcycle), new starter, battery, regulator in ’07, new tran seal when I did the chain conversion.
Condition
The front mag wheel had a tendency to leak like other nighttrain wheels, so I put a tube in the front tire, but I was contemplating new PM wheels and tires, so the back tire is close to needing replaced. This has been one solid bike, and an absolute blast for anything from cruising down a1a looking out at the ocean to whipping through the hill country here in Texas. Cool Vtwin sound and look and still able to blast down the road or hang around a curve. Bike does not have blinkers, horn, or speedometer in case that’s relevant. Never was to me. Get the look of an expensive custom built chopper for a fraction of the price. I’ve been through a lot with this bike over the years, and just want to see it go to someone who’ll enjoy it as much as I have.
