Purchased in 2007.
Garaged all of my ownership. I rode 551 miles since
purchase. Have not ridden since 2017 due to health
concerns.
All electrics work. New tires/tubes in 2014.New tube in rear tire 9/28/21.
Put new Amal Premier carb on in 2017. Haven't
started since then until 8/1/2021. Started first kick and idled
well. I have run her on the center stand 5 times with a total
of 12 miles. Going up and down gears a few times each
ride and between 30-45mph. I couldn't put the air filter
housing on as the new carb was a might too wide. I have
that as well as the original carb which I had to fool with
almost before every ride adjusting.
Runs excellent and shifts well. Brakes work well. *When I
first received cycle after taking a few rides with cycle
stopping very well I did a mild panic stop from 15 mph...the
front brake shimmied. I checked this on Triumph Rat site
and most advice I got was it was a complicated matter to
take apart to inspect and some as to not fool with it so I
didn't do that as I ride conservatively and a safe distance
from traffic. The center stand and side stand work well and
are strong. The seat latch does not latch as it should. It was
like this when I got it. Here is my regimen: close the
seat...pull the pin latch out and then push down a little and
put pin in. Then sit on the seat gently and it works well this
way. If you put too much weight getting on and it latches
completely you'll need a large screwdriver to gently pry it
open. The hole needs enlarged just a mite for the pin to fit
in easily. The top of the left rubber girder is torn...which I
noticed after about a hundred miles on or so? I have the
original key and had a duplicate made. The speedometer
works well as does the trip meter. The tachometer works
but the cable broke off where it attaches to the engine. Too
complicated for me to fix and never used it past 4500 rpm
anyway. Only had her up to 65mph one time. Broke in easy
with changing speeds every 5-10 miles. Added 1 ounce of
zinc additive with new oil changes. Have
always used Super-Tech 20w-50 regular oil. Put in new side
case gaskets and sealer when I got her as well as draining
and putting in new oils. Only a few leaks in all those years.
I always kept her spotless as well as the bolts and nuts cases
but hand pain has stopped that since 2017 but she
presents very well and sounds great. She is bored out 0.40"
over. I have always sold my machines as honest as this
write-up and never had any complaints. These included
many cycles/cars/mowers & other machines. I am an Eagle
Scout 1966 and am honest to a fault. If I was in the market
for a bike like this one I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this
one. It is a beauty. I now ride every week as my body allows. My
biggest ride of the 551 miles was 15miles one way...lunch
and 1 miles home. Other rides were between 5-10 mile
routes I had mapped out. Clean PA title. Insurance is
$112.00 a year with Hagerty insured for $8,000.
I still get a thrill just looking at her and now that I can still
kick her over. I've use 93 octane gas with a dose of Seafoam. The three pages on photos are from when I purchased my cycle on ebay...read that information. Shipping responsibility of buyer.
Thanks for looking at my cycle.
